In the article "Health Effects from Breathing Air Near CAFOs for Feeder Cattle or Hogs" Sussana Von Essen, and Brent W. Auvermann shows us how workers are expose to toxic substances such as Endotoxins found in confinement barns, they are getting lungs diseases. A large amount of bacteria are found in manure, and this is another cause to affect workers lungs. "Endotoxins is a highly inflamatory substance found in substance found within the external cell membrane of Gram negative bacteria, which are abundant in manure. Endotoxin is the substance that has been most consistently associated with impairment of lung function in workers." ( Von Essen 56)
