In the article  "Health Effects from Breathing Air Near CAFOs for Feeder Cattle or Hogs"  Sussana Von Essen, and Brent W. Auvermann shows us  how workers are expose to toxic substances such as Endotoxins found in confinement barns, they are getting lungs diseases. A large amount of bacteria are found in manure, and this is another cause to affect workers lungs. "Endotoxins is a highly inflamatory substance found in substance found within the external cell membrane of Gram negative bacteria, which are abundant in manure. Endotoxin is the substance that has been most consistently associated with impairment of lung function in workers." ( Von Essen 56)

CAFO "Making connection w. keywords."

Pg.90. Camille talked about  how back in the 1950's, there was no pollution nor destruction.  People used to sacrifice their lives and time, planting theircrops. Also how there were no destruction in the environment, no toxic waste, or pollution. Pg89. Kristalee talked about how the cattle are contaminated with diseases, such as Ecoli and they are given antibiotics. Pg. 47. I (Carol) talked about how lives are controlled as machines and how machines are use to make life easily making environment polluted.

Blog 5. CAFO

According to CAFO system, human and animal lives are considered meaningless or pointless. The CAFO system suggest humans and animals to live miserable lives. Is considered pointless because of the  requirements it suggest. For instance, CAFO suggest humans to become desensitized to the work and pressured they have been given. Giving their lives, time and devotion. For animals no choice have been given, and are put to death, with no rights or considerations. CAFO system doesn't really matter for those who disagree with the idea of dehumanizing workers, for companies' benefits. Dehumanizing is to deprive human quality. For the CAFO system is very important to gain and keep productivity raising it maximum level of consumption. Even though it puts at risk our lives, by giving us low quality products. Consumers are being fooled by not knowing the hidden costs of their products. Causing diceases, deaths and bringing bad consecuences to workers. Consecuences such as mentally ill, stressed, and needed for a higher salary.

Blog 4. " Farm to Fridge" by Mercy for Animals- Condensed version.

"Farm to Fridge" by Mercy for Animals, a video that can change our daily life diet, thoughts and feelings. "Farm to Fridge" film shows us how animals are mistreated with no compassion. For instance, chicken are denied to fresh air, workers grab them from their neck, causing broken necks. Also workers hang the chicken upside down in their fragile legs, then they are dragged to electrified water, were they become paralyze when still conscious. Chickens are pulled across a blade to cut their necks. Because male chicks don't lay eggs, and don't grow quick enough to reproduce, they are killed hours after been hatched. One of the methods workers use, is throwing them into grinding machines, when still alive. Another method is throwing male chicks into garbage bags to suffocate them. Female chicks suffer even worse while still alive, part of the chicks beaks are remove with a hot blade or lazer, causing chronic pain. After female chicks are place into small cages were they are going to spend their rest of their lives. Ninety five percent of egg lay hen spend their lives in small wire cages. In the film the chickens look depressed and uncomfortable; four or five are placed in a small cage. Workers cut the cow's tail, slicing their senstive skin, nerves, bones without any pain killer. Also in the film talks about "dawner", how workers put the cattle die slowly, from their injuries. Calfs on dairy farms are dragged apart from their mothers and are violently killed. Pregnant sows spend their four month pregnancy in small wire cages; cages smaller than their own body. After pigglets are born, the workers castrate the piglets and cut their tails without anesthesia. If they don't grow fast enough, workers kill them by knocking their heads on the floor. After the pigs are fully grown, they are send to slaughter houses, where they are knocked on the their heads and cut on their necks while still conscious. This video is related to our video project because, it shows us how cattles are raised, and the process in which workers kill the cattle. Where does the meat comes from and and how it is trade. By only watching this video it had changed many people's diet, I'm sure it can change yours and also by watching it you would be giving a better life to these animals.

Blog 3. "The End Of Overeating."

Ninety percent of Americans are over weight just for choosing  a combination of fat, sugar, and salt. To support my argument I will use " The End Of Overeating" by David A, Kessler.  In the text "The End Of Overeating", Kessler, shows us how the combination of sugar and fat is what people prefer, and it's what they'll eat most. "Many of us have what's called a Bliss Point, the point at which we get the gratest pleasure from sugar, fat or salt." Is where we get the satisfaction from high level of sugar, fat or salt, where rewarding ourselves with these components takes place (Klesser 15). Bliss point, the point at which we get the greatest pleasure from sugar, fat or salt. For instance for sweet beverages that point is about ten percent. This is important because this happens in a daily life routine where many of us be eating foods high in sugar, fat, and salt, and it makes us addicted and makes us eat more foods high in sugar, fat and salt. Drinks that cointain more sucrose, or sugar than generally taste too sweet, we enjoy them less. Another example could be the pizza, it contains the right amount of sugar and salt together where it makes the right point, where it makes us reach the bliss point. These facts leads us to a conclusion where either you'll decide  to make good choices or not.

Blog 2. Contradiction.

Contradictions are statements that denies another or itself. Of many school policies, one of the school policy is not to eat or drink in classrooms and hallways. But by placing beverage machines in schools it contradicts the policy of not drinking in school hours, and leads students get a can of Coca Cola, etc. For instance, "Allow students to bring Coke products into the classrooms, he suggested (Bushey); move Coke machines to places where they would be accesible to students all day." This statement is a contradiction because knowing that students are not allowed to drink in class or in school hours, promoters kept placing advertisements and beverage machines in schools, hallways, and classrooms (Schlosser 57). Allowing students buy or drink Coca Cola, teas, fuit juices and bottle of water from these beverage machines, contradicts school policies.
