Blog 4. " Farm to Fridge" by Mercy for Animals- Condensed version.

"Farm to Fridge" by Mercy for Animals, a video that can change our daily life diet, thoughts and feelings. "Farm to Fridge" film shows us how animals are mistreated with no compassion. For instance, chicken are denied to fresh air, workers grab them from their neck, causing broken necks. Also workers hang the chicken upside down in their fragile legs, then they are dragged to electrified water, were they become paralyze when still conscious. Chickens are pulled across a blade to cut their necks. Because male chicks don't lay eggs, and don't grow quick enough to reproduce, they are killed hours after been hatched. One of the methods workers use, is throwing them into grinding machines, when still alive. Another method is throwing male chicks into garbage bags to suffocate them. Female chicks suffer even worse while still alive, part of the chicks beaks are remove with a hot blade or lazer, causing chronic pain. After female chicks are place into small cages were they are going to spend their rest of their lives. Ninety five percent of egg lay hen spend their lives in small wire cages. In the film the chickens look depressed and uncomfortable; four or five are placed in a small cage. Workers cut the cow's tail, slicing their senstive skin, nerves, bones without any pain killer. Also in the film talks about "dawner", how workers put the cattle die slowly, from their injuries. Calfs on dairy farms are dragged apart from their mothers and are violently killed. Pregnant sows spend their four month pregnancy in small wire cages; cages smaller than their own body. After pigglets are born, the workers castrate the piglets and cut their tails without anesthesia. If they don't grow fast enough, workers kill them by knocking their heads on the floor. After the pigs are fully grown, they are send to slaughter houses, where they are knocked on the their heads and cut on their necks while still conscious. This video is related to our video project because, it shows us how cattles are raised, and the process in which workers kill the cattle. Where does the meat comes from and and how it is trade. By only watching this video it had changed many people's diet, I'm sure it can change yours and also by watching it you would be giving a better life to these animals.

  1. First let me start of by saying your blog is good, I like the way you including details. The only problem is I wouldn’t know where to find the video if I wanting to watch it. You may want to mention where you seen it. You gave great visuals of what was taking place in the video, so even if a person didn’t watch the video they’d have a good idea. I like how you included the key word “ Dawner”. You could explain a little more about what your video project is. But overall I liked your presentation.

  2. You can watch the video mentioned above at MeatVideo.com. All the practices seen are legal and standard and occur at 99% of all the farms in America. The easiest way to oppose what you see is by adopting a vegetarian/vegan diet and reduce the unnecessary cruelty and suffering billions of animals experience every year. Please see ChooseVeg.com for information on a more compassionate lifestyle. Also, the term referenced is downer, which is what these farms call animals that are no longer a productive unit. They are left to slowly die, often in dumpsters amongst other downer animals, like discarded objects. Thanks for posting!
